The United States of the World



This book is about the US attempts to provide most favorable conditions for protection of its national interests in the world. The aim can be achieved by creating of regional associations, where America plays a crucial role. The such union already exists in Europe, and now association is being formed in Trans-Pacific region. However, insurmountable problems arose when US was trying to reform and unite the countries of North Africa and the Middle East. Separate chapters are devoted to ISIL, Ukraine, the problem of refugees and methods that the United States use to implement their plans. Harvard professor Stephen Walt wrote an article, which is full to the limit of arguments in favor of this idea – in December 2015, this article appeared on the website Global Affairs. Here is how the analyst tries to calm public opinion and convince the US government to abandon active operations in Syria and Iraq:

"ISIL is nowhere close to being a great power, and given its small population and underdeveloped economy, it will never become one … Puritanical message and violent methods do not travel well, and its blueprint for an ever-expanding caliphate clashes with powerful national, sectarian, and tribal identities throughout the Middle East … ISIL emergence does not herald the beginning of a revolutionary tidal wave".

Arguments about the possible conversion of ISIL into a great power is such a meaningless as the justification of the inevitability of World War IV. However an attempt to prove that the ISIL not able to inspire radical Muslims by its ideas will certainly cause resentment of US General Nagata, who has spent a lot of effort to understand the ideology of this terrorist organization. General knows that the vast majority of the population in the Middle East and North Africa is Sunni Muslims, for which national differences pale into insignificance, if «infidels» invade the territory of the region. Therefore, Muslims are unlikely ever will forgive the United States attack on Iraq and Libya.
As soon as some arguments lose their value in the eyes of Stephen Walt, he invents new:

"Likewise, aggressive efforts to destroy ISIL could help it survive, especially if the United States takes the leading role. That leaves patient containment as the best policy. Over time, the movement may collapse from its own excesses and internal divisions".
